An update from Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise reveals a casting call for Martin Scorsese’s upcoming “Killers of the Flower Moon,” via a Google form, which confirms a seven-month shoot from February to September 2021 is being planned. “This Covid, this pandemic, has stopped a creative process. I turned in on myself,” Scorsese told Empire before the holidays. “Particularly the first couple of months, when we were locked in our houses, it eliminated a lot of distraction....

Via a report from Osage News, production for ‘Killers’ was reported to start in March of 2021. It turns out that crew on the Scorsese film is now exploring the necessary safety protocols to safely kick production off — after all, Scorsese and De Niro are no spring chickens, both are in their 70s and both have underlying conditions (Scorsese has asthma) that could be worsened by the COVID-19 virus....

The plan for the poll was to blow the doors wide open by mixing up the “chains of recommendation.” Even though he claimed that he didn’t want changes to occur, a tweet written by him dated 08.08.22 said otherwise. Now we have a reader that did his own digging and compared Shambu’s 2012 and 2022 submitted lists for the poll. Wouldn’t this lead to separatist art? and separatist film criticism as well? All I care for are critics that are competent, know their film history and can express themselves in ways undaunted by any societal pressures around them. This kind of nonsense argument is calling for people to step aside. Of note, there’s also been a movement for throwing out the white male canon of film history, which I’ve always implied as coming from millennials that just don’t watch old movies and have not seen any movies pre-80s....

It basically confirms that Spielberg has all but left the mini Howard Hawkes phase he had recently (“Lincoln,” “Bridge of Spies,” and “The Post”) and is aiming for the masses again. There has been much debate as to how and why this could have happened, but Olivia Wilde [via Yahoo] has decided to go the easy route and blame the patriarchal dominance in our culture: “People are more accustomed to male-dominated comedies, and there is still a certain reluctance to believe that women can make you laugh as hard....

I’m not at CinemaCon this year, but you gotta imagine Olivia Wilde being furious about what happened to her on Wednesday. While presenting “Don’t Worry Darling,” her sophomore effort, on-stage, writer-director Wilde was abruptly interrupted by a mysterious man who gave her an envelope. It turns out, Wilde was being “served” by ex-partner Jason Sudeikis for the custody of their two children. What a time to do it. Of course, Sudeikis denies his intentions were to “serve” Wilde at that very moment at CinemaCon....

Another person who has seen the film is the novel’s author Joyce Carol Oates who praised the adaptation as “brilliant and very disturbing....

The maverick Spanish director of such classics as “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” and “Talk to Her” has revealed his list of the 8 best movies of 2020. The list is composed of 4 American movies, “The Devil All the Time,” “Swallow,” “Never Rarely Sometimes Always,” and “First Cow.” Other titles include Jessica Hausner’s trippy anti-pharma diatribe “Little Joe,” Thomas Vinterberg’s drinking buddies movie “Another Round,” and Benjamin Ree’s Sundance doc “The Painter and the Thief....

Polanski’s film is about Captain Alfred Dreyfus, a French-Jewish solider wrongly accused of spying for the Germans in Paris in the 1890s. The film is set to have many parallels to today’s world, the least of which is Polanski’s personal life, as Dreyfus was a victim of smear-campaigning and had his life ruined by the untruthful allegations. A timely topic, to say the least. Venice Film Festival boss Alberto Barbera would surely be making a statement if both movies end up world premiering at the 76th edition of the festival, which is, again, set to take place August 28th to September 9th....

Cosby drugged and raped more than 60 women in his life. Polanski? He had sex with Samantha Geimer, an underage teenage girl back in 1977. Polanski, angered by the Academy’s decision, called it “the height of hypocrisy.” Even Geimerhas been telling news outlets to let it go and stop harassing Polanski for something that happened more than four decades ago, “I’ve grown up, why can’t everybody else?” she recently tweeted....

With a resume that includes “Hunger,” “Shame,” “12 Years A Slave,” and “Lovers Rock,” it’s always exciting to find out what this former visual artist turned director will do next. His last project was the ambitious “Small Axe” anthology series for the BBC which was composed of five films. According to Deadline, McQueen will be back doing feature films with “Blitz.” Although no plot details have been divulged, McQueen is set to write, direct and produce “Blitz,” based on his own original idea....

Stuffing so much plot into its 105 minute narrative that it threatens to derail, and that it does, Carey Williams‘ “Emergency” tackles one night, in the wee-wee hours of the morning. A trio of male college seniors, ready to party the night away, find an inebriated and passed out girl inside their house — how did she get there? Since all three of our protagonists are of color, they fear that calling the cops might give the wrong impression and further their troubles....

However, it was exec director Keri Putnam, before introducing the panel, that shook the tide up a bit, to say the least, by saying that organizers had noticed “a disturbing blind spot” in the festival’s history of giving out press credentials: “Diversity isn’t about who is making the films,” Putnam said. “It’s about how they enter the world.” She said, adding that they were admitting “mostly white male critics.” Which, consequentially influenced the kind of films that were being championed by these ‘mostly white male critics’....

Just to recap: Tarantino had pitched an idea to ‘Trek’ producer J.J. Abrams about an R-rated ‘Star Trek’ movie. This set off Abrams into sending scribe Mark L. Smith (“The Revenant,” “Overlord”) down QT’s way so that they could collaborate and share ideas. Which they have been doing ever since. Speaking with CinemaBlend just a few hours ago, Tarantino confirmed that he is willing to end his career directing his R-rated ‘Star Trek’ movie, but that he also could find a loophole to prevent it from being movie number ten: “I guess I do have a loophole, the idea was to throw a loophole into it,” said Tarantino....

The Safdies are coming off their most successful venture, the Cannes-competing “Good Time,” one of the best movies of 2017, which positioned them as first-rate filmmakers in the international film scene. “Uncut Gems,” starring Adam Sandler as a New York jewelry merchant caught up in a merciless amount of problems, sounds like my kind of jam: an uncomfortable and frenetic ride through the dark underground of NYC. Shades of ‘70s Scorsese are being mentioned in some of these tweets and reviews....

China is a threat to the U.S. and the world if you don’t truly believe that, after everything that has happened in 2020, then you might as well stop reading this right now. Can Hollywood stop pretending that it’s bowing down to Chinese demands is not a problem? If you’re going to stand for civil rights then you can’t also be in bed with an authoritarian regime that has millions in prison camps, murders innocent journalists, silences protestors, punishes doctors for telling the truth, and stifles freedom of speech....

By far the most beautiful film of this year’s Berlinale edition – and the best: Georgian director Alexandre Koberidze conducted a modern fairy tale full of magic and life that finds beauty in the simplest daily tasks and incidents. Starting as an inpossible love story the director lets his camera move around in a small Romanian town and looks into corners we miss or ignore in everyday life: A film full of hope that wants to tell us that life is good and full of miracles, even though all the horrible things that happen around us every day and even though we may doubt or already have forgotten it....

During the week we were greeted with the fantastic news that an unreleased version of “Cats” could exist, this one featuring actual CGI cat buttholes. Glorious. Writer Ben Mekler tweeted about desperately wanting a tell-all book about the making of the movie, which prompted writer Jack Waz to reply with the insinuation that a version of “Cats,” genitalia included, did exist: He tweeted, “A VFX producer friend of a friend was hired in November to finish some of the 400 effects shots in @catsmovie....
