Turkish-German filmmaker Fatih Akin had a streak of critically-acclaimed films in the 2000s (Head-On, The Edge of Heaven, Soul Kitchen). He’s won prizes at Cannes, Berlin and even a Golden Globe. In 2019, he released the critically reviled Berlin-entry “The Golden Glove,” and now his new film “Rheingold,” which was predicted this year for Cannes, Venice and then Toronto, is finally going to world premiere at Filmfest Hamburg. Obviously, a demotion for this once world-class filmmaker. One would have to guess that Venice and Toronto refused to screen “Rheingold,” it’s definitely the most realistic scenario. Why else would he go to Filmfest Hamburg? Akin will need an artistic reboot for his next film. Contribute Hire me
